Overview

Adapted from Henry Fielding’s 18th-century novel, this screenplay was made into the 1963 film, but is also eminently suitable for stage productions, with a large cast of varied characters. Tom Jones is a foundling child taken in by a kindly landowner in Somerset. He grows up to fall in love with the daughter of a neighboring landowner, but their relationship is at first opposed because of his illegitimate background.
