Overview

A couple, unsure of their whereabouts on Millennium New Year's Eve, comes into a small village hotel, seeking directions. They are in Elstow, the birthplace of John Bunyan, the troubled author of The Pilgrim's Progress. As they converse with the hotel receptionist and the local bell-ringers, memories, history, religion and philosophical speculation converge.
