Overview

A flexible adaptation of the haunting stories of Hans Christian Andersen which was presented to critical acclaim at the Derby Playhouse in 2001. Act I comprises The Little Match Girl and The Brave Tin Soldier, and Act II The Snow Queen. There are 57 named characters with many more numbered characters acting as narrators. The original production used a cast of 10 who were on stage for most of the time, but it can be played by as many as 100 or more. The original music for the Derby Playhouse production was composed and orchestrated by Tony Coffey with the cast members playing a variety of instruments including bell-lyres, violins, flutes, drums, coronet, oboe and clarinets. If required, the original score can be hired from the Derby Playhouse. With simple settings and a minimum of props this is an ideal choice of seasonal play.
