Summary
Sisters Charlotte and Lora Anderson own a Georgian cottage in Berkshire which is haunted by a sad lady whom they regard with affection and no fear. Deciding to sell the cottage so they can move abroad, they greet their first interested purchaser. A lady arrives, calling herself Miss Bulteel, pleading to buy the cottage and the sisters consent. As she departs, the real Miss Bulteel arrives, who tells them that the apparition is that of her late sister who always longed to possess the house. Miss Bulteel buys the house and welcomes the ghost there, placing a chair at the window from which she may see the garden. As the play closes the room is again empty, and The Lady enters, sits in the chair and gazes over the grounds in utter contentment.
