At the Fall of the Leaf

Peter Chub, an old village shopkeeper, forbids his pretty young daughter Better to go out with Willia Fairweather. whose father not only better him in business but also stole from him the girl he wanted to marry. Peter cannot forgive his old enemy, though he now lies in his grave, Mrs Fairweather is equally opposed to the association, and as a result of their parents' views the young people quarrel. However, the old couple eventually overcome their prejudices and decide to get married themselves. William and Betty are shocked at the news, but finally agree to follow suit.
