Summary
More than 1,600 years ago St Lawrence was put to death by the Roman Emperor Valerian. This play tells of the courage and immoveable faith of the Christians of that time. Julia, Valerian's mistress is the instigator of a fresh wave of savage persecution and robbery to gain possession of the supposed wealth of the Christians. The calm heroism of the youn Lawrence on his way to a lingering death converts Julia and a centurion, and after the marytrdom of the Saint we see them, with changed hearts and bowed heads, joining the procession of mourning Christians.
