Summary
Jay paces the carpet in his squalid north London flat ruminating on mankind in the twentieth century. Jo, the daughter he abandoned along with her mother twenty-five years before, has suddenly turned up, determined to know her father. His stepdaughter, Harriet, is protective of him and suspects Jo's motives. But who is Jay? The charismatic political agitator who met Jo's mother in the Paris riots of 1968 and who predicted the evils of globalization? Or the cynic and hypocrite who abandoned his radical principles to make a fortune? Or the loving stepfather and devoted husband who made and gave away a fortune to charity - a paragon amongst men?
