Summary
In the'second part of Tom Stoppard's trilogy the action moves from Moscow to Germany, Paris and Nice between the 1840s and 1850s where Alexander Herzen, the civilized revolutionary for whom the word intelligen'sia was formed, becomes the main character. After years of internal exile, Herzen escapes to Paris where other Russian í©migrí©s have settled but he becomes disillusioned in the wake of the Paris revolution of 1848.
