Overview

America in the mid-1980s. In the midst of the AIDS crisis and a conservative Reagan administration, New Yorkers grapple with life and death, love and sex, heaven and hell.
Angels in America is one of the most successful plays of modern times and one of the most studied American plays, with over 40,000 copies sold in the UK alone. It has also been filmed with Al Pacino, Meryl Streep - and Emma Thompson as the eponymous Angel, and is revived at the National Theatre, where it received its world premiere in 1992.

Tony Kushner's epic two part drama is revived at the National Theatre in 2017.The cast includes Andrew Garfield playing Prior Walter, Denise Gough playing Harper Pitt, Nathan Lane playing Roy Cohn, James McArdle playing Louis Ironson and Rusell Tovey playing Joe Pitt.
