JC Lee's probing play about a suspicious teenager addresses issues of privilege, race, and trust. When a teacher makes an alarming discovery about Luce, an all-star high school student, Luce's parents are forced to reckon with their idealized image of their son, adopted years ago from a war-torn African country. Told primarily from the perspective of the adults, Luce also raises questions about the roles that parents and teachers play in the lives of these teenage students.
"Star student, sociopath or a little of each? That is the troublesome question raised in 'Luce,' a thoughtful, well-acted new play by J C Lee" - Charles Isherwood, New York Times

"...the strength of this debut play by JC Lee...is ambiguity. The story really resides in shadows." - Joe Dziemianowicz, New York Daily News

"Lee neatly sketches the pressure-filled world of high-achieving teens—especially ones toting extra racial baggage. By restricting the story to the adults’ perspective, cagey, inscrutable Luce does start to seem less like a normal, rebelling teen than something more pathological." - David Cote, Time Out New York

"
Since Facebook is name-checked in at least two major scenes, it seems only fitting to conclude that Luce gets a 'Like.'" - Jason Clark, Entertainment Weekly
Luce premiered at LCT3/Lincoln Center Theater's Claire Tow Theater in October, 2013 under the direction of May Adrales.
