Summary
With The Mutilated forms the double bill Slapstick Tragedy. The Fraulein earns her keep in the bunkhouse for "transient residents" by trying to catch the fish thrown up by hurricanes, but is frustrated by the jealousy of the Cocaloony, a bird of prey rather like a giant pelican. This and other aspects of the interplay between the strange and odd-looking characters form a nightmarish fantasy open to many different forms of interpretation verring between the comic and the tragic.
History

The Gnadiges Fraulein premiered at the Longacre Theatre in New York City in April 1966 under the direction of Alan Schneider.
